Modern Japanese Studies

Welcome to the Department of Modern Japanese Studies. With two chairs, one professorship, one DFG-funded Heisenberg position and over 600 students, we are one of the largest Japanese Studies departments in Germany. In both research and teaching, we focus on modern Japan. Düsseldorf is well-known for its large Japanese community. All this makes our department one of the most attractive places for Japanese Studies.
