Study programmes
Our department offers a Bachelor's programme in Modern Japanese Studies (as major and as minor) as well as a Master's programme in Modern Japanese Studies. Information on our lectures and seminars can be found in our university's HIS-system. For more information on our curriculum please refer to the German page.

Our study programmes have admission restrictions and can only accept applicants with good grades. For more information please contact our undergraduate and graduate advisors (see below, contact information).
Our BA seminars are mainly in German, our MA seminars in German and Japanese. Without proof that you have passed the German language exam you cannot apply for our BA and MA programmes. The following certificates are recognised as proof of language proficiency:

  • the DSH (= German language university entrance exam for foreign students) 2 or DSH 3
  • the Kleine or Große Deutsche Sprachdiplom (= basic or advanced level language diploma) from a Goethe Institute
  • the Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung (= central, upper school level language test) from a Goethe Institute
  • the TestDaF (= Test of German as a Foreign Language) with a minimum of grade 4 in all individual parts
