Department of Modern Japanese Studies
With four professors and over 600 students, our department is one of the largest institutions of Japanese Studies in Germany. What makes our department unique is that we are focusing on modern Japan and combining methods and theories of the social sciences and cultural studies.
Our areas of research include inter- and transcultural studies, gender studies, globalization, consumer society, unequal society, ageing and popular culture. Duesseldorf is also attractive for students of Japanese Studies because of its very lively Japanese community.
